A Psalm for Giving Thanks
Psalm 100

Warm-Up
What is one small thing this week that made you smile… even for a second?
(Anything counts: a meal, a moment at work, a small win, a funny moment.)

Transition: Psalm 100 gives us a picture of what gratitude looks like — not just as a feeling, but as a way we live before God.

Sermon Discussion
Read Psalm 100.

Part 1 — What Does Being Thankful Look Like?
1. We Shout and Sing Joyfully (Psalm 100:1–2)
Why do you think joyful noise and singing are connected to gratitude?

What keeps people from expressing joy openly?

What’s one worship song that stirs gratitude in you?

Application:Go around: Name one truth about God you could shout or sing about today.

2. We Serve the LORD with Gladness (Psalm 100:2; Matthew 20:28)
How is serving connected to gratitude?

What’s the difference between serving out of duty vs. serving out of gladness?

Where has God given you an opportunity to serve someone this week?

Application: Think of one person you could serve joyfully this week — what would gladness look like in that moment?

3. We Worship with God’s People (Psalm 100:4)
Why does gathering with others increase gratitude?

What do other believers help us see about God that we might miss alone?

Application: Share one way someone in this group or church family has helped you grow in thankfulness.

4. We Give Thanks to God (Psalm 100:4)
Why is gratitude a discipline, not just a feeling?

How does giving thanks shift your mood, your thinking, or even your parenting/spiritual leadership?

Application: Take 10 seconds and quietly thank God for three specific blessings — then share one if you want.

Part 2 — Why Should We Be Thankful?
1. Because an All-Knowing, All-Powerful God Knows You (Psalm 100:3)
How does it change gratitude when you remember God knows you — personally?

What part of your life feels especially comforting to know God understands fully?

Application: Finish this sentence: ‘It means so much that God knows ___ about me.’

2. Because God Is Good (Psalm 100:5)
What’s a recent example of God’s goodness in your life or family?

Why is it important to rehearse God’s goodness when life gets heavy?

Application: Do a quick round of praise together. Have everyone finish this statement: “God has been good to me by….”

3. Because God Is Patient and Loving (Psalm 100:5)
Where have you experienced God’s patience lately?

How does God’s patience with you shape how you show patience to others — spouse, kids, coworkers?

Application: Identify one relationship where you need to express God-like patience this week.

4. Because God Is Faithful (Psalm 100:5)
Where has God been faithful in your story or your family’s story?

How does remembering God’s faithfulness build confidence for what you’re facing?

Application: Share one area where you’re trusting God to be faithful right now.

Closing Prayer Moment
“Lord, thank You for knowing us, loving us, and being faithful. Teach us to worship joyfully, serve gladly, gather gratefully, and give thanks daily. Amen.”
